AESTHETIC MEDICAL CLINIC

Lumps, Bumps & Skin Tags

Lumps and bumps on the skin are one of the most common reasons people visit Simon Lee Clinic in Bristol. Whether it's a lipoma, sebaceous cyst, epidermoid cyst or skin tag, the vast majority are completely benign —and most can be removed quickly, safely and permanently at our Bristol clinic.

Body Lumps, Bumps and Cyst Removal

Lumps and cysts on the body are extremely common and, in the vast majority of cases, entirely benign. Lipomas, soft, fatty lumps beneath the skin, are among the most frequently seen lesions at our Bristol clinic. Sebaceous and epidermoid cysts are also common, as are skin tags on the torso, axilla and groin. Most can be removed safely and permanently in a brief procedure under local anaesthetic, with no hospital admission and no general anaesthetic required.

People often tolerate these for years, either assuming removal is more complicated than it is, or simply never getting around to booking an appointment. At our Clifton, Bristol clinic, most of these procedures are completed comfortably in under an hour, and patients return to normal activities the same day or the day after.

We Can Treat All Benign Skin Lesions

Lipomas Benign fatty lumps most commonly found on the back, shoulders, upper arms and torso. Surgically excised under local anaesthetic. All removed tissue is sent for histological examination as standard.

Sebaceous and Epidermoid Cysts Benign, keratin-filled sacs beneath the skin. Often felt as a smooth, firm lump. Removed by surgical excision under local anaesthetic. Recurrence is uncommon when the cyst wall is completely excised.

Skin Tags on the Body Benign fibrous growths on areas of friction such as the axilla, groin and neck. Removed by surgical excision or short-wave diathermy.

Frequently Asked Questions, Skin Lumps, Bumps and Tags Bristol

  • Should I be concerned about a lump on my body?

Most lumps are benign, but any new, rapidly growing, hard or fixed lump, or one associated with other symptoms, should be assessed promptly by a medical professional. At our Bristol clinic, all removed tissue is sent for histological examination as a routine precaution.

  • Will a cyst come back after removal?

For most lesion types, surgical removal is permanent. Sebaceous cysts can occasionally recur if the wall is not completely removed, we take care to avoid this. We will discuss the likelihood of recurrence for your specific lesion at your consultation.
