Jowls Treatment

Jowls are a structural issue, not just a skin concern. Simon Lee Clinic in Bristol offers both non-surgical softening options and definitive surgical correction to restore a clean, defined jaw line.

Jowls, the soft-tissue excess that hangs below the jawline at the sides of the chin, are among the most common concerns at our Bristol clinic. They develop as the supporting ligaments of the face weaken with age and the soft tissues of the lower cheek and jaw descend, blurring the jaw line and creating a slightly square, heavy appearance to the lower face.

Jowls cannot be resolved with injectable treatment alone; they represent a structural problem that needs a structural solution. Non-surgical options can soften the appearance, but for a genuine and lasting correction, surgery is the most effective approach.

Options we offer

Dermal fillers placed along the jawline can add definition and create an illusion of a sharper jawline, reducing the visual impact of mild jowling. This approach is appropriate for early or mild jowling in younger patients but does not correct significant tissue descent.

Thermage skin tightening uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen remodelling in the lower face, providing some degree of tissue tightening. Results are gradual and modest.

For significant jowling, the facelift, performed by Mr Lee, is the definitive treatment. Mr Lee performs deep-plane facelifts and dual-plane endoscopic facelifts. These lift and reposition the deeper structural layers of the face, removing and redistributing excess skin and tissue to create a natural, lasting result. This can be performed under general anaesthetic at one of the local hospitals or under local anaesthetic at our CQC-accredited theatre.

Frequently Asked Questions — Jowls

  • Can fillers fix jowls?

Fillers can improve the definition of the jaw line and soften the visual appearance of mild jowling, but they cannot lift or reposition descended tissue. For significant jowling, surgery is the appropriate option. We will advise honestly at your consultation.

  • What is the difference between a mini facelift and a full facelift?

Mr Lee performs both endoscopic minimal-scar facelifts and more comprehensive deep plane procedures, tailored to the degree of correction required. He will explain the difference clearly at your consultation and recommend the most appropriate approach for your anatomy and goals.
