Neck Bands Treatment
Platysmal bands appear as vertical cords running down the neck, ageing the neck faster than the face above. Simon Lee Clinic in Bristol offers both injectable relaxation and surgical correction to restore a smoother, more defined neck profile.
Vertical bands in the neck, known as platysmal bands, are caused by the separation and hypertrophy of the platysma muscle as it ages. They appear as two vertical cords running from the jaw to the collarbone, most visible when the neck is tense or when speaking. Over time, as the muscle weakens and the overlying skin loses elasticity, the bands become more prominent at rest and during movement.
They can make the neck look significantly older than the face above it, creating a disconnect that no amount of facial rejuvenation can address on its own. For many patients, the neck is the first area to show visible signs of ageing, and platysmal banding is one of the most common and noticeable causes.

Options We Offer
Anti-wrinkle injections (neuromodulation) placed into the platysma bands relax the muscle, significantly softening their appearance. An extension of this is the Nefertiti neck lift technique, a series of injections along the jaw line and into the bands that improve neck contour and sharpen jaw definition. Results last 3–4 months.
For patients with more significant banding or laxity, a neck lift, tightening the platysma muscle surgically, produces a definitive and lasting result. Mr Lee performs a corset platysmaplasty when doing a neck lift in isolation or as part of a face and neck lift. This can be done under either local or general aneasthesia.
Frequently Asked Questions — Neck Bands
-
Will anti-wrinkle injections remove my neck bands completely?
They will significantly soften the appearance of mild-to-moderate platysmal bands — the result is often dramatic. For very prominent bands in which the muscle has become significantly hypertrophied, surgical treatment yields a more complete correction.
-
How often would I need repeat injections?
Results typically last 3–4 months. Many patients find that regular treatment produces a cumulative softening effect over time.
