AESTHETIC MEDICAL CLINIC
Lumps, Bumps and Tags
Most lumps, bumps and skin tags are entirely benign. That does not mean you have to live with them. Whether it is a skin tag on the neck, a cyst on the scalp, a mole on the face or a lipoma on the back, the vast majority of these lesions can be removed simply, safely and permanently at our Clifton, Bristol clinic, usually in a single appointment under local anaesthetic.
A great many people have tolerated a lump or tag for years, assuming removal is either complicated or expensive. In most cases, it is neither. Removing a prominent lesion can make an area look noticeably cleaner and fresher.
Types of Lesions We Treat
Skin Tags, Benign fibrous growths, most common on the neck, axilla and eyelids. Removed by surgical excision or short-wave diathermy. Quick, straightforward, and well tolerated.
Moles and other skin lumps or tumours, The majority are harmless. Where removal is desired for cosmetic reasons, all tissue is sent for histological examination as standard. If there is any clinical concern prior to removal, expertise is available at the clinic. You may see Mr Lee or have your mole mapped via telemedicine by a dermatologist.
Sebaceous Cysts, Benign, fluid-filled sacs beneath the skin. Removed by surgical excision under local anaesthetic. Recurrence is uncommon when the cyst wall is completely excised.
Lipomas, Soft, benign fatty lumps under the skin. Surgically excised under local anaesthetic in a brief procedure.
What to Expect, Most procedures take under an hour. Local anaesthetic is administered beforehand, so there is no discomfort during removal. You are awake throughout. Healing is generally straightforward, with small sutures removed at five to seven days. All tissue removed is sent for histological examination as a routine precaution.
