AESTHETIC MEDICAL CLINIC

Pigmentation

Pigmentation is one of the most common concerns we see at our Clifton, Bristol clinic. An uneven skin tone, whether caused by sun damage, hormonal changes, ageing or post-inflammatory marks, can be frustrating, and it is often resistant to over-the-counter products. The right treatment depends on the type of pigmentation and its cause. Accurate diagnosis matters just as much as the treatment itself.

Pigmentation Treatment in Bristol

Pigmentation is one of the most common concerns we see at our Clifton, Bristol clinic. An uneven skin tone, whether caused by sun damage, hormonal changes, ageing or post-inflammatory marks, can be frustrating, and it is often resistant to over-the-counter products. The right treatment depends on the type of pigmentation and its cause. Accurate diagnosis matters just as much as the treatment itself.

We can treat all forms of benign pigmentation

Sun Damage,  Solar Lentigines and Melasma (Age Spots) Flat, brown patches on areas of chronic sun exposure: the face, hands, décolletage and forearms. They can also be caused by hormonal changes such as pregnancy or the pill. These respond well to AUREON dual fractional laser, IPL treatment, Nd:yaglaser AcuPulse fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, medical skin peels and Obagi Nu-Derm correction protocols which are prescription only.

Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)

PIH is the darkening of the skin that can occur after acne, blemishes, inflammation, or other skin injuries. It is particularly common in medium to darker skin tones. Effective treatment options include triple combination therapy, IPL, Thulium 1927nm laser treatment, medical-grade chemical peels, and Obagi skincare protocols. As some laser treatments can increase the risk of further pigmentation, careful treatment selection is essential.

General Uneven Skin Tone
Diffuse dullness, patchiness and loss of luminosity. Aureon dual fractional laser resurfacing, Co2 laser,  Microneedling with exosomes, IPL,  skin boosters, regular peels and a structured home care routine all contribute to meaningful improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions, Pigmentation Treatment

  • Can pigmentation be permanently removed?

Solar lentigines respond very well to lasers and peels and can be significantly reduced. Melasma is more complex and tends to require ongoing management rather than a single curative treatment. We will be direct with you about what is achievable for your pigmentation type.

  • Does sun protection matter?

Absolutely, it is essential. Any pigmentation treatment will be undermined by continued unprotected sun exposure. SPF50, applied daily year-round, is a baseline requirement for any patient beginning a pigmentation correction programme at our Bristol clinic.

  • Is Obagi Nu-Derm suitable for all skin tones?

It requires medical supervision and careful selection. We assess your skin fully at consultation before recommending it.
