Skin tags are harmless, fleshy growths attached by a stalk. Some people are more prone to them. Although they are harmless, they can cause embarrassment. Common sites for skin tags include the underarms, the neck, and any area that rubs against clothing.

How can they be treated?

At our Bristol Clinic, we can remove skin tags using a diathermy machine, which removes them safely and under controlled conditions with heat.

How can this procedure be arranged?

An initial consultation, including a full assessment of your suitability for treatment, will be conducted. We will explain the treatment, including expected results and aftercare advice. A costing will also be provided.

What happens on the day of treatment?

A consent form and pre-treatment photos will be taken. The area will be numbed with local anaesthetic cream if required, and the skin tags will be removed.

Aftercare advice will be provided.

What should be expected after the treatment?

The area will crust over, a small scab may form, and occasionally we apply a small dressing straight away after the treatment. Following this, the treated area may appear slightly pink; patients must be careful to avoid exposing it to sunlight for a few weeks after treatment.

What results should I expect?

The treated skin tags will normally require just one session. However, occasionally a second session is required. If an individual is prone to skin tags, new ones may form in the future and can then be treated.
