Obagi Nuderm

Obagi Nu-Derm Prescription Skincare in Bristol

Obagi Nuderm is a famous skin care range which was developed by a Leading Dermatologist in California.

Obagi Nu-Derm is a prescription-strength skin correction system developed by Dr Zein Obagi, one of the most respected names in medical skin science. It is not a skincare range in the usual sense. It is a medically supervised programme designed to correct the signs of skin ageing and pigmentation at a cellular level, requiring assessment and prescription by a qualified healthcare professional.

Most of the visible signs of ageing are driven by what is happening in the deeper layers of the skin. Obagi Nu-Derm addresses these changes directly, using prescription-strength retinoids, hydroquinone and other active ingredients to normalise cell turnover, reduce abnormal pigmentation, improve skin hydration and stimulate collagen production. The results, over a full programme of several months, can be transformative.

At our Clifton, Bristol clinic, Obagi Nu-Derm is prescribed and supervised by our nurse prescribers, working within the clinical framework of Mr Simon Lee’s practice. We assess your skin carefully at an initial consultation before recommending a programme.

What Obagi Nu-Derm Treats

Uneven skin tone and pigmentation. Melasma, sun damage and age spots. Fine lines and skin texture changes. Dull, ageing skin lacking luminosity. Post-inflammatory pigmentation. General skin ageing and quality decline.

How Obagi transforms skin

  • Increases the rate that skin produces healthy, new skin cells referred to as cellular turnover
  • Reverses and prevents hyperpigmentation and unwanted dark patches/brown spots
  • Stimulates collagen and elastin production to provide tensile strength and elasticity
  • Improves the blood flow, nutrition and hydration in the skin

How can I buy Obagi?

Following an initial consultation with our Prescribing practitioner the Obagi Nuderm regime can be prescribed and purchased.

How long does it have to be used for?

We normally recommend that patients should use Obagi Nuderm until they have achieved their desired results usually after 6-18 weeks of applying. Following this a maintenance regime will be recommended in order to maintain the results which have been achieved. Following a comprehensive consultation we encourage patients to attend the Clinic regularly for reviews so that we can ensure that the dosage and frequency is correct for each patient.

What side effects can be expected whilst using Obagi Nuderm?

  • During the first few weeks, you should expect your skin to flake, peel and appear slightly pink- this phase is called ‘Out with the Old’
  • During the second phase ‘In with the New’ patients will find their skin will reach a tolerance to the system, the flaking should begin to subside.
  • In the third phase, “the Healthy Glow” collagen and elastin are increasing in production and the skin will appear to be improving, uneven skin tone and pigmentation begin to even out.
  • The fourth phase, “The New You”, will help to maintain the results which have been achieved with this comprehensive regime.

Obagi Nuderm can make patients more sensitive to UV light so it is essential that a high factor SPF is used. Obagi Nuderm products should be applied as directed by your prescribing practitioner.

It is recommended that whilst using the products, mineral makeup is applied.

What results can be expected from Obagi?

Most patients report the following improvements in their skin following using Obagi Nuderm:

  • Pigmentation removal and reduction
  • Smaller pores
  • Improved skin texture

The programme typically runs for six to eight months, with regular reviews. An initial phase of four to six weeks can involve some skin sensitivity, redness and mild peeling as the skin adjusts to the active ingredients. This is a normal and expected part of the process. The results come in the months that follow, as the programme works at a cellular level to reverse the changes that have accumulated over years. Most patients find the result well worth the adjustment period.
