AESTHETIC MEDICAL CLINIC
Triple Therapy
Triple therapy is a well-established protocol for treating pigmentation, particularly for patients with a mix of surface and deeper pigmentation concerns. The combination of three prescription-strength active agents, hydroquinone, a retinoid and a topical steroid, working together is more effective at suppressing abnormal melanin production than any single ingredient used alone.
It is most commonly associated with the treatment of melasma, but it is also used for persistent post-inflammatory pigmentation, solar lentigines and other forms of uneven skin tone that have not responded adequately to single-ingredient approaches. At our Clifton, Bristol clinic, triple therapy is prescribed and supervised by our nurse prescribers as part of a broader pigmentation management programme.
Who Is Triple Therapy For
Patients with established melasma that has not responded to standard skincare. Post-inflammatory pigmentation following acne or other skin trauma. Persistent or recurring pigmentation in medium to darker skin tones where other approaches have been insufficient.
What to Expect
Triple therapy is used as a short-term prescription programme, typically over eight to twelve weeks, combined with rigorous daily SPF use and, where appropriate, clinical treatments such as IPL or peels. It should not be used indefinitely. Regular review is important to monitor skin response and adjust the programme as needed.
